Aromatherapy
What Is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment.
It works by stimulating smell receptors in the nose, which then send messages through the nervous system to the limbic system — the part of the brain that controls emotions.
Often also referred to as essential oil therapy, it uses natural plant extracts made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves, or fruit) to capture the compounds that produce fragrance. In addition to creating scent, essential oils perform other functions in plants, to promote health and wellbeing.
It can take several kilos of a plant to produce a single bottle of essential oil. That is why they are generally quite costly.
By using aromatic essential oils, one can improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit as these enhance both physical and emotional health.
